Ignite Your Storytelling

$135

Online I Sept 15, 22, 29 I 6:30 - 8:30 PM

In collaboration with McNally Robinson

Get the guidance, inspiration, and feedback that every writer needs—and almost no one gets.

Some people are just meant to write. Maybe you've known it for years—but you haven't started yet, life has gotten in the way, or you've been writing quietly on your own, unsure if it's any good. This workshop is for writers who are ready to begin, reconnect with their writing, find their footing, and finally hear how their work lands with others. Whether you're writing personal stories or fiction, this workshop is for you.

What you'll get:

  • Fresh ideas and new writing sparked every session
  • Actionable storytelling techniques you can use right away
  • Supportive, professional feedback on your writing every week
  • The accountability that helps you actually finish what you start
  • A safe, encouraging space to grow as a writer

Each week, participants will share a 600-word story and receive supportive, professional feedback. For the first session, please bring a short personal or fictional piece (max 600 words) inspired by the theme "Home." Use it as a starting point and bring whatever you create—there's no expectation that the theme appears in your writing at all. You're welcome to interpret it however you like—literally or metaphorically, from your life or your imagination.

This workshop was formerly known as Enhance Your Storytelling. Past participants are welcome to join but should note that some material may overlap with previous Enhance Your Storytelling workshops.

How to Access Your Stories

$35

In-Person I Thursday, Sept 17 I 6:30-8 PM I McNally Robinson Winnipeg

In collaboration with McNally Robinson

Every writer has stories worth telling. The problem isn't that they don't exist—it's knowing how to find them and trusting yourself enough to put them on the page. This workshop is about learning to do exactly that. Together, we'll explore where original stories actually come from—not from technique or talent, but from the perspective you've built through a life only you have lived. We'll look at how to access that perspective, how to nourish it, and how to let it guide you when you sit down to write.

You'll also learn to ask better questions. Not "who am I to write this?"—but "what do I want to say?" That shift changes everything. It moves you out of doubt and into the page. Through guided writing exercises, you'll practice writing without judgment, discovering that your next line is always closer than you think—and that uncertainty isn't a sign something is wrong. It's where the good stuff lives.

For writers who are tired of waiting to feel ready—and want to start finding out what they actually have to say—this is for you.

This workshop is a new and expanded version of The Write Mindset: Accessing Your Creative Voice, previously presented through the McNally Robinson Community Classroom.

How to Know if Your Writing is Working

$35

In-Person I Thursday, Oct 15 I 6:30-8:30 PM I McNally Robinson Winnipeg

In collaboration with McNally Robinson

Every reader has an experience as they move through a piece of writing. They lean in when something sharpens or surprises them. They drift when something stalls or loses its thread. Most of the time, they can't explain why—they just feel it. This workshop teaches you to feel it too, in your own writing.

Together, we'll read a piece of writing and learn to track reader experience in real time—noticing where engagement builds, where it softens, and what's behind each shift. Then you'll bring that same awareness to something you write in the room: a quick piece, revised line by line with a clarity and intention you may not have had before.

For writers who want to move from "I think it's okay?" to "I know what this is doing"—this is for you.
