Write Things: On the Gift of Writing

Dec 25, 2025

Hello writers,

Today is Christmas Day.

However this day meets you — full and loud, quiet and heavy, or somewhere in between — I wanted to remind you of three gifts that are always yours to give.

1) The gift of writing.

The joy of crafting a line just right.
The satisfaction of finding the word that finally fits.
The pleasure of shaping a sentence until it sounds like you.
The moment someone lights up when they read your words.

Writing is a gift we give ourselves — and one we offer to our readers.

2) The gift of the present moment.

The present is where writing lives.

Your writing is always available and waiting for you here.

It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been away.
It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve restarted.

You can always return.

3) The gift of choice.

In this present moment — this moment of presence — you get to choose again.

To reach for a story when it calls.
To listen when the desire to begin, or begin again, makes itself known.
To live the life of a writer, one choice at a time.

I hope you’ll keep these gifts with you as you move forward, carrying them gently into whatever comes next.

Wishing you and yours a peaceful Christmas and a wonderful holiday season,

Trevor
